West wants to give future engineers (doing a university/bachelor's degree in computer science) the opportunity to gain experience by carrying out a software project with us. This is usually a great experience for both the student and West. West currently has a large number of engineers on its technical staff who completed their research projects with us. We maintain close links with TU Delft, yet undergraduates and students from other institutions are also welcome.
The project you want to carry out is determined in consultation. It may be that you yourself have good ideas or it may be that we have an idea or project that is very suitable for an undergraduate. We are always interested in innovative ideas. It is important for us to gain a clear picture of you as a person during the research project, as well as an impression of how you fit in at West and what your potential is. Of course, it is always great if the result of your research project can be used directly in our other activities.
West will nominate a senior employee to supervise your research project. He or she will follow the whole project and will be your first point of contact. It is an essential, however, that are able to work independently when carrying out your research at West. We are an extremely knowledge-intensive company and we ask a lot of our employees; and therefore also of our researchers. In return, we offer you the opportunity to acquire a lot of highly valuable knowledge.
You will have your own state-of-the-art working area in our spacious office and you will be seen as an able-bodied (junior) member of our technical staff, with all the respective rights and duties. For example, you will be expected to take part in regular technical discussions. Remuneration will be based on your project and the circumstances.
